That's where this little box comes in. It's really simple to install. It comes w a cable that is identical on both ends. One end plugs into the digital audio out port on the tv and the other end plugs into this box. Then u plug your traditional red & white analog cables into the correlating red and white ports on this box. Just a heads up the box does need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Once I connected everything it seemed to be working well, but then I switched from satellite to blue-ray and my speakers stopped playing sound and started making static sounds instead. I followed the instructions another reviewer posted about tweaking the tv settings. Go to settings, then sound, then sound output and choose audio out optical--then go to expert settings---HDMI Audio Format=Bitstream, then go to Audio Format=PCM. Review: Does what it's supposed to do at a great price - I'm using this little DAC so I can get the audio from my Roku to my old Denon receiver. I use the optical digital output from my TV into this little box and a regular stereo interconnect into my receiver. This DAC only handles PCM stereo, so you have to make sure the TV is set to output PCM stereo from the digital output. Doing this varies with different makes of TV, but the control is there in the audio settings, you just have to find it for your TV. Once hooked up with the proper TV settings, this works like a charm. The output is a little low, meaning that I have to turn up the receiver's volume a bit more than when listening to the output from my cable box, but that's what volume controls are for. Sound is pretty good, especially for a $14 DAC. The included optical cable is a "throwaway" quality item; mine was almost impossible to get into the converter itself and broke when I tried removing it. Considering a good quality optical cable would cost almost as much as this DAC, I don't really see that as a problem. Just realize you might want to order a better quality optical cable along with this DAC if you don't already have one. The included power supply is a plus and seems to be of good quality. Overall, this item does the trick and costs only $14. BUT cable ends fit poorly into the ports *by Z***Z on December 4, 2019* First things first - It works with both Netflix and Amazon Prime. I've seen a few reviews here where people are saying that it does not. But I am happy to report that they both work fine with my setup. I purchased this product to convert the optical audio out from a new TV to my analog Sennheiser HDR120 HiFi wireless headphones. The old TV had RCA out jacks for sound but the new one had only a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the optical out port. And I need a solution that allows for both headphones and the TV speakers to work simultaneously. This does the job nicely. The only problem I have is the connectors on the optical cable provided do not sit tightly in either the port on the converter or the port on my TV. The connections are loose and the slightest touch can knock them out. I'm not sure if I just got the wrong cable or if this is to be expected. But the connectors do not plug well into the ports on the device or my TV. And -yes- I do have them plugged correctly in the ports. The connectors just seem like they are too small or are not shaped exactly right for the ports. UPDATE: 12/3/2019 - Seller contacted me to advise that the small plastic caps on the ends of the connectors are protective coverings and needed to be removed. Since this was my first time using optical audio-out connections, I thought those caps were just a part of the cable connection. They are so tiny it was easy to miss. Anyway, I removed the caps with some tweezers and now the cable fits nice and snug into both ports! Revising my earlier rating to 5 stars now.
