You can use penny nickel or dimes

A: On the bottom of the machine (red portion), is a part to open. Also, you can put other small candy (think M&M's) and it works. It's not just for gum. Really nice.

My 8 yo son was so excited for this. It's a gumball machine and a bank. It takes a penny, nickle, or dime to get the gumball. You can easily remove the coins from the bottom by using a quarter. The only issue is that sometimes a gumball gets stuck in the chamber. Then you have to remove the container and pour the gum out.
