They've been up to 1/4 in (64mm) off at times. It appears to me this is due to the laser being somewhat misaligned with the bottom of the housing. I wouldn't recommend using it for anything that needs any degree of precision. But it's great for quick, rough estimates. The saving grace is the tape itself, which I can extend to 9+ ft (almost 3m) before it breaks. Both sides have measurement marks, and the back has both metric and imperial units. The magnets on the end are strong, but not too strong. When I reel it in, I don't feel like it's going to whip around and take my eye out.
