There is no way a squirrel could open it. Highly doubtful a raccoon could get in either. We leave the charcoal in the bag and then put the bag inside. My husband keeps his grilling gloves and a lighter inside of this at the campground. These seal tightly enough that even when the humidity outside is heavy and so thick you can hardly breathe, the charcoal inside of this is completely dry! These fit perfectly under the back of our camper so they are out of the way. The one we have at home fits under our charcoal grill. The handle is solid on these!
