So Far -- Meh... More to come at some point

I had high hopes for this product. I am in the USA so I fly in FCC mode and I did a lot of research on whether to go with the DBS Mods extender or this. I watched some vids and read some reviews and decided on this. I was hoping to double the range I was getting with my stock controller. I have a DJI Phantom 3 Standard, with a simple windsurfer as the only mod. I've flown over 5,511.6 feet on a beach on Cape Cod where there is 0 interference on a cool, very clear day with little wind. This was 2 days prior to receiving this antenna. The antenna is pretty much what you would expect, slightly plasticy and light. This product is very easy to install and I actually did it today on my lunch break so I could test it out after work. I went to a park in my town where I have flown before in a suburb of Boston near an old air port. Needless to say, there is a TON of interference. Prior to this flight I flew the same path at the same park with a totally stock set up sans windsurfer. My max distance was 1566.9 feet, I was hoping to more than double that, as I said above. With the ARGtek mod I achieved a max distance of 2398.6 feet which is only adding 831.7 feet to my range. I did this both with the windsurfer on the new antenna and off, the distance was negligible within 150 feet. I flew all my range tests between 350 and 400 feet.Yes, I haven't tested in an open and interference free area with clear line of sight and no trees or houses around, maybe then I can really see how well this does.I will say one thing, I never lost video link, that is a huge improvement. With a stock set up the video was very choppy and cut out on me periodically. This never cut out and was only choppy right at the limit of its range and this is with lots of other signals, power lines and trees around.Pros:- Easy to install- No holes in the controller- Looks nice- Enhanced Range for video and distanceCons:- Expensive for what it is / does- Plasticy- Doesn't improve as well as advertised- You will need to modify any bag that carries your controller as the DJI backpack will not fit the new wide antenna bracket.I will follow up on this once I can do more testing with better conditions and with less interference.UPDATE:Did another flight today in a less congested area and got 4,825 ft. Not terrible but I was getting that with a windsurfer mod which is like $3, so if you're looking I suggest giving that a try. The output of the wifi is only so strong the best way to increase the range and to use a signal director to make the antenna less omni-directional. Wifi can carry miles in a very narrow beam, this product helps slightly but not as much as advertised. Good news is I did not lose range as one review suggested.UPDATE:I've flown now for about a month with this mod and the video is much better than the stock controller that makes it a solid buy. I made it out to 5600 feet which is also pretty impressive in a populated area. I still use a windsurfer which helps a great deal if you're trying to fly long distances. This antenna paired with a $5 windsurfer mod will give you rock solid video and impressive range for the P3S. Keep in mind that you can get close to a mile with just the wind surfer and the stock controller in an open area. So if you're looking to go very long distance without adding another battery and an amp this works pretty good and there's no irriversable changes to the controller. Also once it's installed if you wanted to amp up the signal you have the sma connectors already installed and without drilling holes.

    Easy to install

*by J***Y on Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2017*

It does as advertised. Easy to install, just follow the directions in the video. You should have a hot glue gun as a non-conductive adhesive to keep the connectors in place. You're using physics to improve your connection, this is nothing magical. Instead of having the 2-2.4 ghz wifi antennae inside the plastic controller, it moves them outside. Less reluctance for the magnetic waves since they don't penetrate plastic = better range. As far as the center antenna, the 5.8ghz, the new omni-directional antenna is better signal strength. You can connect the directional (square) antenna to "beam" the signal in a "straight line" rather than radiating it in a 360 degree circle. You're basically taking the output power and "concentrating" it forward rather than distributing it all around you, which can get you more distance. You are NOT increasing your transmission power (which would be done at the radio on the controller and on the drone), so nothing magical is going to happen ie: flying it from Philly to NYC. But what will happen is that you WILL see better range, because you're using better antennae. My Drone: DJI Phantom 3 StandardTime to install: I went from opening the box to in the air in about 70 minutes. This was with watching the video start-to-finish.My experience: I do electrical things for a living (power production), amateur radio operator 20+ years ago, and have a general understanding of physics. You do not need any of this expertise to do the installation, however, just watch the video. I believe what's being sold here is truly an upgrade, as it's just improving the transmission and reception from the on-board radios. As far as installation difficulty, I'd let my teenager do it. Again, the video is wonderful - you need not know anything about electronics. If you figured out how to fly your Phantom, you're overqualified to do this installation.Distance gains: I fly off of my townhouse deck, so my rear 180 degrees is all concrete and wood walls. I only have about 45 degrees in front of me where it's clear for 50 feet, then 200 foot tall trees are all on my forward horizon. With that said, I get further X distance if I increase my Y height. Keeping things equal, I went from about 1400 Ft X distance at 500 ft Y altitude to 1900 with the conversion, using the new long omni-directional antenna. Using the new directional (square) antenna, I pushed it to over 2400 feet. Again, trees in the way. I expect 1 mile+ on a clear location, such as a beach.Recommendation: Use the omni-directional antennae when you're standing in a field and wish to fly all over without having to turn yourself to "beam" towards the drone. If you want the longest gains and you're able to move your body to maintain an invisible, uninterrupted line between you and your drone, go with the directional (square) antennae. You'll get at least double your current range.Changing the antennae takes about 5 seconds each. Just carry them both with you and adjust depending on where you're flying.Good luck!

Installed this on my old drone and it really did improve signal strength.
