There is a chemical smell when I first unroll it for use. The smell goes away once it’s straightened out but I smell it every time I unroll it. The material is different from my more expensive mat which has more of a leather feel. This one feels more rubbery and synthetic. However, it’s not a bad feel and for a price, I can’t speak I’ll of it.Overall, if you want a really nice leather or leather-like mat, get something more expensive, but if you want something practice and useful, get this.
