The tempered glass is durable and is surviving vegetable chops. I was disappointed with the backing, which suffered a deep gouge when I tried to remove the the stubborn label. I wanted to remove the label so as not to attract bacteria or mold through frequent use and washings. Unfortunately, the gouge in the backing has now really exposed it! The backing, although claimed to be the non-slip aspect in the Amazon description, may be the adhered kiwi pic under glass...not sure about that.
