The bowls are well made, with a smooth, white finish. The bottom has a rim which is unglazed, most likely to prevent it from sliding on the table but may scratch a wood table. They are thick, and so should hold heat well. I have not tried them in the oven yet, so cannot say if they are oven safe, although they claim to be. I washed them by hand, although I think they should be safe in the top rack of a dish washer, as long as they do not touch other objects, which could chip them.
