I don't know anything about a spring loaded flex tip. I believe the poles would be very helpful for someone who limps. I have a friend who uses different lengths on the poles when he is in the snow to accomodate the terrain. I love using the poles when I am walking, and I am approaching 80. **Q: I weigh 200 and will be hiking in Tetons then on rocky Burren in Ireland. Can these take the work and wear?** A: We got 2 sets and were just back from Patagonia. We had problems for one set just on the 2nd day of W trek in Torres del Paine, Chile. One folding part didn't insert to another one. We had to return. But another one used by my wife worked fine even after heavily used for about 10 days of mountain hiking. The gloves and connection to the grip work great so the basic walking form is good. While I like the poles but there are a few things to note. Be sure to verify the size you need as the adjustment is limited in each size. The size I ordered barely fit. The poles seem to rattle a little bit. The pieces do not snugly fit together. Lastly the walking foot split at it's neck after a couple walks so it continuously fell off.
