She's 7 and this was her first latch hook experience.  The mat is not colored so she has to consult the instructions and count squares and compare the different color symbols to the legend.  The ones I remember doing as a kid had colors on the mat so you could just grab the yarn and attach it.  So it takes a little longer.  She's pretty meticulous and detailed so it's not a big problem.  But if you're buying for a younger child, it may be a little difficult and they may loose interest.We can't wait to see the finished pillow!
