At $18 what's not to like (it lists $46 on the Kershaw site)? Well, for a start, 4.8 ounces.On the other hand, it's built like a tank!Everything except the thumbstuds and the modest 3" blade length itself, errs on the side of "a little bigger/a little thicker".Even the blade is super tall (spine to edge). Compared to the same-length Clash, the blade looks stubby because of the short but tall design.Impeccable fit and finish.SpeedSafe is relatively slow, for assisted opening, due to the heavy blade. (Maybe also due to simpler double washers each side instead of bearings). SpeedSafe is a feature I've grown to like because it always assures me that the liner lock will "seat" soundly behind the blade tang to protect my fingers from accidental closure (liner locks and frame locks need a little ":snap" in their opening to seat solidly, unlike a lockback or Axis).Tip up is the only carry option, but the clip is reversible to the other side to allow safe carry in right pocket (how it arrives) or left pocket. "Safe carry" means blade spine against the pocket seam. SpeedSafe also helps keep the blade closed without having to use an impossibly stiff ball-bearing detent.Flipper and dual thumbstuds are completely ambidextrous. However, I found that the flipper would catch on my hand and interfere with opening if I used the thumbstuds instead of the flipper - the handgrips I use in each opening mode (studs or flipper) are slightly different. So my advice is to remove the thumbstuds if you have the same problem, the flipper is sufficient for easy reliable opening, and I prefer it over the thumbstuds anyway.The thumbstuds are press-fitted hence once pried apart to remove, cannot be put back together. I used pliers on each side to separate them (duct tape the edge for safety).I don't think you could possibly want this for daily carry, it is too heavy (but now that I think about it, I carry more than most in my pockets, so if all you have in one pocket is the Swerve and some cash, you won't have a problem). It is certainly a good "go bag" choice though, if you have multiple go bags, or put in the trunk, then the cost savings really add up without any compromise as to hard duty use.For EDC, I recommend the Kershaw Chill or Kershaw Oso Sweet instead, much lighter and compact. HOWEVER the Swerve is deliberately spec'd to pass most, if not all, 3" blade length limits in some cities/counties/states.Differences with the Ken Onion designed Clash:Clash has a narrower, more normal looking blade vs. the "broad leaf" appearance of the Swerve.Clash has no thumbstuds.Clash has broader pocket clip, but shallower carry - Swerve is semi-deep carry.Swerve looks wider and thicker when closed.Swerve pocket clip reverses side to side, Clash reverses top to bottom.Clash is 4.4 ounces, Swerve 4.8 ounces (my scale).Swerve is satin finish, Clash is bead blasted - satin is slightly more reflective, but bead blasting can rust more easily due to the microscopic pitting.On the Kershaw website, the Clash is a Ken Onion design, the Swerve is a Kershaw Original design, and the Ken Onion Clash list price is $10 more (more of a spread here on Amazon).Both are made in China, but Kershaw long ago mastered the art of China+good steel and treatment+mind boggling low prices.You are getting a LOT more knife than the typical hardware store or truck stop blister pack, better than Walmart's Ozark brand. Just allow for the extra weight, which is at least related to super toughness.There is some confusion about blade steel. This is NOT 3Cr or 4Cr (the blister pack Filter is 4Cr and used to be 3Cr). It is the excellent 8Cr used by Kershaw in most of their mid-priced knives. Just go to the actual Kershaw website to confirm. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Very fine knife! Anyway, the Swerve is as good and additionally has the assist opening…nothing like the clunk of that wonderful Kershaw bade opening. The steel alloy is unbeatable for a daily use blade. Stays wicked sharp and hones quickly. A tad heavy as it is an all metal knife, but the quality is there so it makes it should stand up to abuse and be fine! Nice texture grip for a substantial hold for a pocket folding knife and attractive so nice to hold and maneuver, however the handle is a bit short for leveraging any heavy pressure applications, which you aren't supposed to with a folding knife anyway. But you know how it is in a pinch, it will make the grade caution applied.Easy open with one hand, a careful close with one hand can be done. perhaps it opens a little too easy, but it hasn't opened in my pocket yet. You could use the clip, I don't, the lever lends itself to easy open when not restricted. Very sharp and nice finishes! You won't be disappointed.
