It not only lubes them, but the lube keeps the teeth clean of pitch longer. Most of my sawing is hardwood, and woods like cherry tend to deposit pitch on the blades. Bladecote doesn't prevent this, but it does inhibit it somewhat, so that I need to clean the blades less often. It also tends to prevent burning of woods like cherry, that burn easily. Not enough? I live in a humid climate, and have seen no rusting on my blades, either, though I'm unaware that Bladecote contains rust preventatives.Application: I spray in on the entire blade (both sides) after cleaning, concentrating on the saw teeth. I don't use it on drill bits, but do on jointer blades, though less often.I have found absolutely no issues when finishing wood that was cut with Bladecote. You do have to clear the nozzle in the usual fashion -- upside down and spray until clear.
