**Q: How are they applied?**
A: I pushed the long rivet through the inside of boot shoe lace hole then on the outside put the d-ring unit on long rivet put on short cap on top of long rivet.  Place the whole unit on something hard , like an anvil, and take a hammer and smash the short cap smashing the whole affair together.

**Q: Are these clamshell in design? I do leatherwork and am looking for something to mount through a chain link so I need to open/close sides before attach**
A: It can be done but it will be a lot of work.   I uese a pair of needle nose pliers to spread them easy enough puting it back together was a little more diffcult deu to the size

**Q: What kind of tool do these need to be set?**
A: I used just a hammer and anvil>

**Q: Isn't a specific size of mandrel and punch needed to install these? Where can the required installation tooling be obtained?**
A: No. any hammer and anvil-hard metal surface.
