My performance instrument these days is the autoharp, and playing a melody from a score is a challenge. Also, I haven't sung parts in ages, so I need extra practice time. This is just perfect for that purpose. The action is s a little strange for someone used to a real keyboard--this one is completely flat, but I expect I'll get used to it with practice. (That's what Miss Young used to tell me: practice, practice, practice!) Also, I was disappointed to find that I need to go out and buy the adapter that allows me to plug it into the wall. I was, however, pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound and the range of its functionality. I bought it so I could continue basic practicing when I travel. I played it, thought it sounded decent, and certainly would help. The tone sounded good to me, though certainly this is not a grand piano. It has a bunch of rhythms and frills that I most likely will not need unless I simply want to "play around" with it. I took it to my piano instructor, and I was dumb-founded - he was able to play it VERY well and was extremely impressed with what this roll up piano can do. So, yes, I think it was a good purchase decision. The only thing I would warn others about is - the box itself has everything in Chinese (I think it is)! However, the instruction manual does have instructions in English! ### ⭐⭐ Could Actually Discourage A new Player *by R***E on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on June 16, 2012* I've been playing keyboards for 40 years. I needed something compact to carry on a plane and when I saw this I thought it would be the perfect solution. I watched the video review here and I was really impressed as I'm sure most people would be. So I ordered mine. I was very impressed with the keys. They are truly full size and are slightly raised and seem to be well made. I was also surprised that it came with a sustain pedal! It also came with a case and an AC power supply. That's it for the good news. I had High hopes of using this with midi, hooking to to my Ipad and enjoying it with the Garage Band App. The internal sounds are very very cheap sounding and even as a very experienced keyboard player I had a very difficult time playing this thing fluidly. My left hand was fatigued after only 5 minutes or so. I played my usual stuff that i can play in my sleep but I was unable to play like normal. The kid in the video makes it look so effortless, like he's barely touching the keys, but my unit was nowhere near that sensitive to touch. I loved the looks of this keyboard, but it was not, in my opinion, something you can actually perform on. It may be great for working out songs, and fiddling around, but if I were to rate myself as a good player I'd say I'm an easy 85% good rating...but this put me down to about a 15% category. The sustain pedal works like nothing I've ever experienced before which makes it completely useless for playing as you would a normal piano. On a normal piano, and all keyboards that I have played (I own 7!) you can push the sustain pedal and sustain the note as long as you push it before releasing the note. On this keyboard you MUST PUSH THE SUSTAIN BEFORE PLAYING THE NOTE which is completely foreign to piano players. It is annoying and awkward and you would have to completely rethink your timing in order to make it work properly and the feel would be totally unnatural. So, I highly discourage buying this for anyone who wants to learn how to play piano. It makes it MUCH MUCH more difficult to play than a real piano or most other keyboards and would likely discourage new prospective piano players if they've never played a real one before. Other disappointments were: No transpose/octave option, midi caused notes to hang up, unit would turn itself off for no apparent reason, when hooked to an amplifier there was an very loud hum and it still sounded very cheap. Be aware that this keyboard does not claim to have the ability to play softer as you play it softer (no velocity sensitivity) and I recommend keyboards with that feature so that you can play more expressively as on a real piano. I would only recommend this to experienced players who want to noodle around on something in a hotel room without having to lug a keyboard on a trip. I think with a little more effort this could have been a must have keyboard, but no...you don't need this.
