This book is powerful. *by E***. on Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2012* I happen to know the author of this book, we met by chance years ago in an unrelated setting, so I didn't know how particular good he was with the ladies. But I did notice an extremely high level of intelligence and eloquence on a large number of topics. It didn't surprise me that this book's philosophy is applicable to many facets of life.Tao of a Gigolo book is extremely well written, has a unique style of directness that I know is authentic and comes from his heart, but not intended to be easy.I will be honest, picking up women is low on my list of things to do. In my opinion, the amount of effort it takes to get with vast numbers of women isn't worth my sacrificing; that is a decision I made after realizing what I am innately good at, and that is engineering/science, and then dedicating my life to it. More abstractly, what is high on my list is building a career and life on my own accord; achieving a high level of independence and freedom. Then living on a yacht :)---I figure at that point, I'll get all the women I could want.So you'd think this book is a waste of my time? It's not. This book is powerful.I admit, as I read the book, I chuckled every time Vin mentioned "gigolo"; I would get deep in the zone reading this book, thinking about my life goals, then mentioning gigolo would shock me out of it! I was reminded this is marketed for dating after all. But the main ideas of this book are gold for people with career drive and understanding how to achieve mastery in any endeavor. Ironically, it's not particularly motivational; it's more of an honest take on reality, painfully honest at times.This book is your well-meaning, wise, though slightly harsh friend who slaps you back into shape when you go astray.In a way, Tao of the Gigolo is more of a cross between manifesto and thesis of Vin's belief system. Vin lays out an entire array of beliefs, all of which make sense and fit together. I didn't agree with about 10% of it though, but Vin gives such strong arguments for his beliefs, that it had me really focus and work on justifying my own beliefs.That process made me believe stronger in myself.Some examples to review---Vin explains his philosophy of Easy vs. Difficult, and Simple vs. Complex. The idea is that most things break down into easy steps, but when you add things up as a whole, they seem difficult and complex. That was a very eloquent explanation and it helped me solidify an idea I have been playing with. Almost all problems must be broken down into its baby steps for it to be understood fully and made useful. For example, thinking back to my worst professors in college, they were the ones who casually skipped steps when going over a topic. Instead of teaching A through Z, they would go from A, D, M, and then Z. It was extremely frustrating. I suppose I learned a lot in the end, but in the real world, when making a product or creating a robust business plan, you cannot skip steps that casually. Eventually, you will get eaten alive. It happened to me on a small scale at my first attempt at business.Personally, I am at a point in my life where I am not sure what the next step should be. Vin wrote sections describing the pain walking the path is. You must feel pain while walking the path, as the short cuts inevitably have large pit falls (something I learned as well more than once). At this moment, I feel like I have many decisions to make and if I don't make a move soon, someone else will make them for me. It is tough making a decision like switching jobs, switching career paths, starting your own business, etc. But Vin drives the point clear, you have to take steps towards what you want. It is a long journey, but do not take the short cuts.There is much more to it than that of course. There is only so much I can convey without just repeating what the man says.All in all, this is a short book and I recommend reading it on a Kindle so you can easily dictionary all those giant, rare SAT words he threw in there! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Learn how to speak truth to (sexual) power. *by G***T on Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2012* "To those who do not hear the music, the dancer appears insane."This book will entice you. If you are coming to this from the right place, you will power through it like I did.
