It is an additive. You can add it to unfortified thin set and comb it to the cap. Let it cure for 24 hours and then place in a setting bed that has also been fortified. The latex will keep it from freezing and as an additive instead of water, there will be less shrink stress. **Q: My red brick chimney has a crack (8 vertical feet). Want to use red morter to patch it. If I pretreat the brick with this will it help the bond?** A: I want to say yes. The product works. Not sure about mortor application personally, but can't see why it wouldn't. You could always contact their customer service and ask, but I liked the product... **Q: Does it dry white or clear?** A: Depending on product you are applying it to, usually clear but sometimes slight milky color. **Q: Do you mix this with sand topping cement as replacement for water for thin horizontal applications?** A: I would check to see if anything is mixed in with what you're using.
