Searching online, I found that gentle application of isopropanol would remove the stickiness. Rather than processing a return, I swabbed the back of the unit with a paper towel moistened with isopropanol. Black gunk was deposited on the paper towel. I finished the back and sides and turned to the top panel. First swab took off the lettering. Now I have a gunky, unreadable top surface. FML. The apogee would probably have better A/D converters, but it's only two channels, and you have to buy plugins for some of the better console emulation. I would put the sound quality well ahead of the zoom unit. It records 8 track audio pretty easliy, the 2 onboard preamps sound very good, and the k mix also functions as a standalone audio mixer. It's built like a tank, and with no moving parts to break off, its a great live recorder. Again, i use it on a windows system, but it was developed for apple devices. It can mix in multiple surround configurations, it slices, it dices, it makes julienne fries. For the money, i recommend it highly for mobile multitrack recording. **Q: What is the sampling rate? Sometimes they aren't as precise as you need when making quick changes (that requires toggling "fine" mode which adds another step to the flow) Windows drivers and editing software was added shortly after I purchased which is a huge bonus. There is a trade-off for the compactness and unique design when compared to standard mixers. It takes more than one hand to get to parts of many features since they require holding the shift button. This makes the workflow slower than most mixers. I haven't used the control modes much yet, but they look like they will come in handy. Currently, it's one midi channel per control page.
