I think the earrings are a bit long, but they were easily shortened with pliers. My hair is afro textured and the sticks are smooth metal, they will stay in but I zig zag going in downward 1st to get them to stay pointing up and out. For me they were a fun buy for in the house, this is after all a lot of drama for day to day wear. However, if you were looking for something special for prom or a wedding, I could see these tucked into a top bun or french roll.
