## Overview

The NDS 422G Pop Emitter with Elbow is a professional-grade drainage solution designed to fit 4-inch sewer and drain pipes. It features a pop-up cap that opens under water pressure to release excess water downstream, preventing property damage and erosion. Its flush, flat profile reduces trip hazards and mower damage, while a built-in weep hole ensures all-weather reliability by preventing pipe freezing and stagnation. Compatible with multiple pipe types, this emitter is a trusted component in comprehensive stormwater management systems.

## Description

Every drainage system needs a point of release to prevent back-up issues. Use the Pop-Up Drainage Emitter to discharge water away from structures, erosion-prone landscapes, and poor drainage areas. The Pop-Up Drainage Emitter with Elbow connects to 4 in. sewer and drain pipe, and the cover “pops up” to release water when pressure builds. Cover closes once flow diminishes and stays closed when not in use to prevent debris & rodents from entering and potentially clogging the drainage system. Weep hole at bottom of elbow drains out water left in pipes to prevent stagnation or freezing in cold weather. Flat profile design blends discreetly into the surrounding landscape. Cover is made of polyethylene; elbow is made of polyvinyl chloride.Pop-Up Drainage Emitters are a part of a complete drainage system that help with stormwater management. They work with pipes, catch basin drains, channel drains, trench drains, and drain grates to filter, capture, and convey excess water to drain pipes; the pipes carry the water downstream to discharge with a Pop-Up Emitter, or to percolate into the ground with a dry well or infiltration trench.Find the right drainage solution for your needs with our NDS Home Drainage Center tool at ndspro.com/home-drainage. Review: Rain pushed the top valve out and it was down the street to a main city gutter. Not very stable.
Review: Took two hours to install two of these. Planted grass seed around then and over the corrugated pipe. I was very careful to not place them so that the tires of the rider mower would not go over the unit and potentially damage the pop up emitter. Since these do not have any springs on them to prevent them from popping up the suction of the mower pulled it up and chewed the pop up portion into about 10 pieces. Whole thing ruined! Unbelievable! I have purchased this item before but it had a spring installed so that the pop up portion would not come up too easily. I don't know if these are still available with springs loaded into the pop up portion but if they are I am going to try and find them and I would suggest you do the same. And since I bought them over 30 days ago and just now was able to install them I can't return the other one that hasn't been sucked into the stratosphere. Hope it doesn't happen. Extremely Disappointed.

## Features

- RELEASE WATER AWAY FROM PROPERTY: Capture water upstream and carry it away from structures and poor drainage areas to discharge with the pop-up emitter positioned downstream
- HOW IT WORKS: The pop-up emitter works at a low point of the drainage system to discharge water collected from upstream and help protect property from water damage
- INSTALLATION: Elbow connects to 4 in. sewer and drain pipe and 4 in. triple-wall pipe, connects to other pipe types using appropriate adapters; install with cover flush or slightly below adjacent turf to reduce potential for clipping with lawnmower
- POPS UP TO OPEN, CLOSES WHEN FLOW DIMINISHES: Cap, or cover, lifts up as high as 1 in. once water pressure builds; flat profile design reduces trip hazard and is flush to the ground when properly installed
- ALL-WEATHER SAFE: Small weep hole in elbow drains out any water in the pipe to prevent stagnation or freezing in cold weather

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do they freeze up? I live in Wisconsin and worry the residual water may freeze. Thanks**
A: I have 3 of these (similar buried systems) all running down angle underground and yes they can freeze up (residual water at/around the pop up, “Colorado clay” stops up the little relief drain hole) although just 1 of the lines seems to show drain water backup up to the downspout during melt…anyway, for winter I pull off the 4” at the bottom of the downspouts and slip on another adapter and length of 4” downhill” that is just open at the end (Maybe there’s a better way? because yes we have 4” laying on top of ground level that can trip over etc.!

**Q: How does the water make its way to the discharge with a hole in the bottom ?**
A: The hole in the bottom is so small that the vast majority the water will be emitted from the top. The hole only allows a small amount to drain, which is important after that heavy flow has stopped.

**Q: My down spout is rectangular is there a piece to connect with that shape on one end and circular on the other?**
A: Correct. There is a rectangular piece that fits on the downspout. Then you need your hose to connect to the drainage

**Q: Anybody use this in cold weather climates. Does it freeze up?**
A: No. Have had 2 of then for several years in NY state. Never a problem. However they are used as an overflo for a drain pipe. I have no idea what happens when they are under a foot of snow. IBut f there is running water they won't freeze.

Works like a charm. I went a bit further and actually built a dry-well, putting a 5' hole filled with rock under the emitter. Instead of the 90 degree elbow my emitter is installed on top of a 4" PVC T. I utilized the 90 at my downspout. My drainage now goes under my patio slab sidewalk. My hope is this takes me into colder weather to provide continued drainage below the frost, but I'm not certain how that will work in the dead of winter. Not much water flows in those months anyway. During heavy extended rainfall the pop-up just spills on the lawn anything my dry-well can't handle. Installed at ground level I can take the lawn mower right over it as advertised, worry free. I went to all the big hardware stores for any device like this and they looked at me like I had 2 heads. I found none of the chain stores in my area sold them or really knew what I was trying to build. No problem buying one here on Amazon though. So far, I'd recommend this device to anybody wanting to get rid of a troublesome downspout and drain sitting in a traffic area. A little work trenching, but no more tripping hazard.
