I would not be exaggerating if I said I feel like my pencils will last twice as long. One slight issue would be the size of the hole. It handles #2 pencils and colored pencils just fine. The feature description says it's removable, but I can't figure out how.** A: The black ring around the handle turns counterclockwise, then the sharpender mechanism comes out. **Q: Does the sharpener work on thicker Caran d’Ache color pencils?** A: Yes. My favorite sharpener so far, very well made compared to my Dahle 133 which broke, and my Dahle 155 eats my pencils. **Q: The metal grip has left deep gouges in the barrels of the pencils I’ve sharpened. I’m wondering if this is common? I don’t find it acceptable.** A: Once I open the grips and put the pencil in, I don’t touch it anymore until I remove the pencil, so I’ve never had that problem. **Q: I need a new desk clamp for this sharpener. Is it sold separately? (I have difficulty using the sharpener since it moves.)** A: I have no clue. I actually don't use the clamp at all. I put the pencil into the sharpener, then put my left hand on top of the sharpener to hold it in place while my right hand cranks the lever.
