So I'm sure they send you fresh packed sand. I completely recommend it. **Q: what is special grade?** A: The title is confusing on this item as "Special Grade Reef" and "Fiji Pink" are two totally different types of sand. Both are nice but the Special Grade is a bit bigger, if you go to there website you can see the differencehttp://caribsea.com/pages_caribsea/page_product_aragalive.html **Q: My ammonia didn't spike at all. live rock is in, did your ammonia spike with this sand?** A: This is supposed to cycle your tank instantly... if you have an ammonia spike then you need more live rock. The bacteria in this acts as a filter **Q: Can it be used for fresh water** A: You can use this for freshwater but it will kill the bacteria, but the sand would be fine to use. the one drawback though is it is aragonite sand, so a lower ph it could dissolve some and add too much calcium in your water.
