Review: The best there is. - My father used to carry my brother and I to the old mall in Gainesville, Florida, to get our haircut. An elderly gentleman had a shoe-shine stand in the barber shop, and my father would always get his shoes shined. I think this is where my love of good-looking shoes started. After school, I joined the Navy where, of course, my shoe-polishing education continued. Now, I'm 64 and have taught school for over 20 years, and I've kept my shoes polished all these years. I mention all this merely to let the reader know I have some experience polishing shoes. Simply put, Saphir is the finest shoe cream I have ever used. After I discovered it, I did away with all my wax-based polishes except for black which I use for the heels. If you polish with wax, you just keep piling it on top of itself, and after a few years your shoes don't look so good anymore. They start to crack. Wax-based polishes are not designed to be good for your shoes; they are designed to put a shine on them. Conversely, Saphir is easy to put on and there is something about it that makes it good for your shoes. When you put Saphir on, you can feel how soft and supple it makes the leather, and this may sound strange, but it even makes the shoes smell good. You smell it, and you know it's doing what it's supposed to for that leather. I have always felt that a good review mentions the pros and cons. I can only find two cons with Saphir. One is the price. However, I am not deducting stars for that, because I think Saphir is the best shoe cream out there. Also, you can do a lot of shoes with that little jar of cream. I would estimate that a jar will polish 8-10 pairs of shoes. This cream is really thick, and a good dab on a cloth will literally polish almost half a shoe. That is my experience anyway. My second con is that Saphir does not impart a bright shine on a pair of shoes. It is more of a dull shine, but the shoes feel oh so good. And, personally, I don't feel the need to see my reflection in a pair of shoes. Actually, at my age, I don't want to see myself at all. I'd prefer my shoes last a long time and look good that entire time, and that is what Saphir helps me accomplish. My school routine is this, I polish every new pair of shoes before I wear them. This prevents scuffs, a lesson I learned the hard way as a child. I asked my parents for a new pair of boots and scuffed them the first time I wore them. I asked Daddy how to get the scuff out. He asked me if I had polished the boots. I, of course, said "no". Daddy said, "Then you can't get it out." He was right as always; I couldn't get it out. I still remember how bad I felt about those boots. So, after the initial polish, I put cream on my shoes every 6 months to 1 year based on usage. To keep them looking good daily, and this is important, I use Weiman Leather Wipes every day or few days that I wear the shoes. These wipes cut way down on the number of times per year that I was having to polish my shoes. And Weiman Leather Wipes are not expensive. In fact, they are relatively cheap. These wipes will impart the bright shine you are missing with the Saphir, and keep the shoes clean and healthy. To me, Saphir and Weiman Leather Wipes are the cat's meow of shoe care. And, no, I don't own stock in either company, I just try to help people when I write these reviews. I'm a teacher, and it's summer so I'm off. I've been doing some shoe polishing to pass the time. It relaxes me. And... I am so slow.... I just figured out Saphir has all these colors, and I could have been using it on my tennis shoes and leather shoes of varying colors. I had only been using it with dress shoes. So thinking outside the box (finally!) gave me the picture I am showing you. I've intentionally left out newer shoes. Every pair of shoes here is 5 years or older. The newest is the olive green pair of Rockport's, and I used a neutral color on them (called Reno Mat but Saphir also has a neutral-colored creme). And if you're thinking those are not 5 years old - yes they are - I have a lot of shoes so I don't wear the same pair every day. The oldest shoes are the Timberland's, front right, they're over 20 years-old, and I used Saphir Renovateur to clean them and then applied a burgundy cream. You should have seen these before I started: fishing, mowing yards, general destruction for 20 years. The front row, second from left, are Rockport's that are now cognac colored - they were light brown. I think they look good. The dress shoes in the back row, far right, are 15 years-old or older. I put Saphir on them every year. So, now that you see the picture, maybe you can decide if Saphir is worth the $30 or so including tax, and the dull shine it imparts (use the wipes). I think it more than is. Thank you for your time. I know this is very long, but I hope it helps.
Review: Excellent product - This is an expensive product but it really lives up to the hype. It has a maximum of pigments and allowed me to blend a repair with leather filler so it was invisible.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What color for Allen Edmonds walnut shoes?**
A: Light brown blends in perfectly.

**Q: will the neutral color work just as well on any color shoes?**
A: It definitely works well, though it will only provide shine, and not necessarily maintain color. The pigmented polishes are excellent for reviving the color, and can make scratches or blemishes less noticeable. The renovateor is good, though is not natural and can actually have a negative effect on the original patina on the shoe, and certain polishes can actually be completely ruined by the renovateur, so please be very careful! Also, it is not the responsibility of shoe brands for third party product use, so be very careful as to what you use!

**Q: are any of these colors = 2 cordovan?**
A: The real definition of "Cordovan" refers to the type of leather, which can be in many colors. When we in the U.S. use the term "Cordovan", generally, we a referring to a very dark red color, or Burgundy. An example of this color is what The Lincoln Shoe Polish Co. sells as Lincoln Stain Wax "Marine Cordovan"--U.S.M.C. approved for a high-gloss, carnauba wax, spit-shine and is a very deep Burgundy color. Saphir's Creme Polish would be #08 Bordeaux (Burgundy). Saphir #09 Mahogany is much lighter in color and has a more brownish hue. Saphir #10 Cognac is lighter yet and has a very light brown hue. These polishes, including Lincoln's Marine Cordovan Stain Wax are for regular calfskin leather shoes, not cordovan leathers. My best suggestion to you would be the Saphir #08 Burgundy. It is a very deep red with slight hints of purple. I think this is the color you want for regular calf leather. If you want a spit-shine, mirror finish, you'll need to put a top coat of high gloss Cordovan Stain Wax or Neutral Wax over the Saphir Creme Polish. Saphir Creme has the most pigment of any polishes available, but it does not polish to a glass finish, because of all the leather conditions it contains. Hope I was of help, didn't mean to confuse you!

**Q: I have 'wine shadow' color carlos santos; they look close to mahogany but that may be too brown, hermes red looks too red, any ideas?**
A: buy both and mix... use the one on the browner parts and the other on the redder section... ask C. Santana what they recommend...or decide if you want your shoes browner or redder and use that color

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best kind of shoe cream.
*by B***. on November 27, 2022*

This cream/wax is really nice. A thin coats and your smooth leather boots/shoes can have a mirror shine. Here’s what I did to my Classic Black Thursday Captains. 1) brush your boots/shoes with a horse haired brush to get bigger pieces of dirt off. 2) clean off the boots with a wet rag to remove all loose dust and dirt. 3) apply a tiny amount of the colored wax onto the vamp and then quarter panel until you get a nice even haze. 4) once you get the entire shoe/boots covered wait about 10 minutes to let the wax soak into the leather. 5) brush and buff the shoe/boot to a mirror shine with a horse haired brush. 6) if you’re happy with the shine then stop. If you want a mirror shine get some water on a lint free rag and then buff the shoe/boots one panel at a time. 7) buff again with horse haired brush and you’ll have achieved a mirror shine. 8) check to see if you can see your own face or not. Lol. This colored wax is really nice to use on a black pair of boots after you condition your boots. I used the Cobblers Choice leather conditioner before applying the wax. I would put the conditioner on the boot first and give about 12hrs for the conditioner to soak into the leather. Then the next day, buff to a shine, and apply the Saphir product a quarter panel at a time and follow the aforementioned steps. I would try to use a soft cloth or a brush to apply the wax as it will stain your hands. You can also use gloves and apply the wax on with your fingers too but I used a brush to distribute the wax evenly and then buff to a mirror shine. It worked out perfectly imo. 3/13/2023 So I bought the dark brown to use on my Grant Stone Ottawa boots in crimson cxl because I have been in the hospital with my 7yo and while here at the hospital I accidentally opened a door on my brand new boots. I was not paying attention as I was half sleep half awake. The door ended up putting a huge gouge on the toe of my boots. I contacted GS immediately and they advised me to get a pigmented cream and cover up the gouge with it. I thought about taking it to a cobbler but I don’t have the time and honestly, I don’t mind a few scratches on my boots. I think it builds character. I used up using a q tip because the gouge was small enough that I didn’t need to use anything more to cover up the gouge. The color matched perfectly and if I wasn’t already aware of the gouge I don’t think the average Joe can see it. I am happy with the results although I should take it to a cobbler for them to blend it in but I just don’t have the time right now. Thanks in advance! 5/16/2023 Bought some beige cream to pair with my Dune Cxl Diesel boots from Grant Stone. As you can tell they were the perfect match although I had to do a lot of brushing to get the color to even out. At first it was very dull but after about 30 minutes of continuous brushing the part that I put the cream to polished nicely and now they make the boots look as if they were natural shell cordovan when it was only cxl. I like the results though.
