They have smooth bottoms. I don't know what the 1.5 gallon jars are... **Q: Are these seals heavy and will it keep cereal from going stale?** A: They are very heavy, actually bigger than I originally thought. I don't use them for cereal but for coffee grounds instead. It keeps my coffee fresh for 2 weeks but then starts getting weaker. If you are worried about young kids lifting them, get something else but other than that they are really good. The seal works well compared to others. But actual cereal holders work better.
