I am not an employee or have any association with Essie, I am a customer like you, that ordered this Bordeaux color polish. My experience with the polish is that you do not need a base coat as this polish applies very evenly and smoothly. The saturation of color is 100% and is opaque with one application of polish. I personally, always do two applications of polish because I like that two hides ridges in my nails (when I do not have time to do an extensive manicure and buff out ridges or other imperfections). Further, it is not necessary to add a clear top coat to this product as it dries with a shiny lacquered finish. (One trick I did learn long ago from a professional manicurist was to at least stroke a top coat on the ends of the nails, while the color coat is still wet so it blends, and that seals the polish to the ends of the nails where the most wear and tear take place. I have found this trick can extend my polish for a full five days more before it begins chipping.) So, I do believe that Essie has formulated this polish to be a TLC option, I just personally prefer two coats. **Q: Is methylchloroisothiazolinone one of the ingredients in this particular color of nail polish?** A: I am not sure what that is. It does not indicate that that is something that is in the nail polish on this particular bottle. It wears very nicely.
