I guess my taste in water is not very demanding as I thought our city water tasted fine. But the family claimed that it had too much chemical taste. So I grew weary of buying bottled water and decided to try this filter. The Installtion: The filter installs on the cold side of the water lines. First, I mounted the filter under the sink and near the front side of the cabinette for easy changing of the filter. Two wood screws and your done. In my case I mounted a small 1x4 board to the cabinette, then the filter to that board. My cabinettes seemed too thin to me to mount it directly to them. But I'd guess that I overbuilt it. Then I cut out about 3 inches of the cold water line with a small hacksaw and used a utility knife to clean up the ends. I tried to make sure that the ends of the cut pipe were clean and round. Push on the plastic connectors (supplied with the filter) until they are completely on (push hard just to be sure). Take a look at the connector first to get an idea of how far on they should go. Cut the plastic tubing (there are two pieces ... one inbound and one outbound) to the correct length with the same utility knife. Push the tubing into the connectors at the sink end and the filter end and your done. Now open the faucet. Turn on the water valve just a little and let a small flow of water thru. Push the red button on top of the filter and let out the air pressure as the filter fills up. I did this several times until I got a small spray of water out of the red button. Now crank open the water valve and let it run for 10 minutes or so to flush out. The end. Maybe an hour or two of work. Most of that time spent checking and double checking the instructions. One try ... absolutely no leaks. Instructions were great. Other than a hacksaw, screwdriver and utility knife, everything is included. I'm no plumber and have virtually no experience doing this stuff but gave it a try anyway. I left a couple of pans with dry paper towel over them for a day to watch for leaks. I honestly wasn't convinced that the plastic connectors would hold. We've been using this for a month or so and have had no leaks at all. And the ultimate test was the family. Eveyone loves the new taste (or lack of taste I guess). An UNBELIEVABLE value!
