A friend of mine (who plays in a symphony) says the following; 1) Never use a silver polish on the gold plated instrument. It wears down the "gold plate" to the silver metal. 2) Use a "John Ogilbee's fine anti-tarnish bag" in the instrument's case. "Protect" the silver plating (beneath the gold is the key). 3) After each use, don't need anything more than routine wipe-downs and the occasional bath.
