One time I skipped this and my dip-nails began to "lift" much sooner. The whole procedure to apply a full set of nails takes me roughly 4 hours to completion (mostly because I am a newbie at shaping/filing them). I am sure it will get faster as I become more experienced. The Hardest part for me - removing the product. After the powder has set, and its time to shape them, or when its time to remove the old and begin a new set, I am still learning to file the old stuff off without OVER-filing the edges of my nails (I end up with small bleeding and then scabs around the nailbed - ouch & yuck; side note; even my professional nail tech over-filed/cut one or two of my nail-edges more often than not). But, still - these heal in about 3-4 days. Best of all, my dip nails last for a month & sometimes even longer! Bottom line - worth every penny and all the effort! I am saving $35/month on average, considering I spent about $5/month (averaging my 1st year costs annually of the Melody-Suisse E-file and all supplies over the past year). That is one of the wonderful things about this kit. Basically no smell at all. I was surprised. I've used systems in the past that were of strong odor. **Q: What are the steps for applying without tips?** A: File nails, apply glue and dip in powder. Once done wait before brushing off powder with nail sponge. After doing those steps a few times (file down between applications) use the activation polish and that’s pretty much it. I feel like it’s really easy just tedious **Q: Does this last long ?** A: For me it did not. I work in child care so it lasted 3-4 days. **Q: Are the tips squared? Also, is this where it will only require a small amount of buffing and they are smooth and ready to go?** A: Yes regular square tips both "natural" and white tips. To me the tips will work with 3-4 applications of glue/powder depending on how hard you are on your manicures. I never use the included tips. I bought ecbasket tips they are very sturdy and come in popular shapes..it will only require a small amount of buffing if you apply correctly and smoothly... STAY AWAY FROM THE CUTICLE AND EDGES to help avoid lifting. KEEP PAPER TOWELS CLOSE TO WIPE GLUE BRUSH IN BETWEEN powder applications. This is imperative TO AVOID GLUE and brushes from HARDENING INSTANTLY. This applies to the activator as well.... This is buy far my favorite kit ever to learn with before moving to real acrylic.
