The person who said it wouldn't work either has had a bad experience due to a bad product, was misinformed, or doesn't know what they're talking about. Incidentally, coffee, while not as acidic, is still on the acid side of the pH scale and is never questioned. Lemon flavoring added to water is probably closer in pH to coffee than it is to soda.
