Makes it much easier to work with. I actually use this to store my son's powerwheels up and out of the way during winter. As long as youre within the weight limits and secure the load youre hoisting to the grippers I see no reason why it cant be used for other storage. As others have mentioned, the rope looks like it will fray a bit over time, but really it stays static for me most of the time. So your mileage may vary. And also the hooks on the grippers could use a little more curve to them. I usually opt to add bungee cords through the little hole in between the gripper joints as a way to secure whatever I'm hoisting or add a bungee cord or two to make sure the grippers dont slip. The only risk of slipping really is during hoisting/lowering with an uneven weighted load. You can minimize this by supporting the heavier side either by yourself or with a helper or just making sure you've got a good secure mounting point. For the money this is a really great deal. The "two pack" contains two systems for 2 bikes. IMO a bargain! **Q: Who is that guy in the video at 0:13 to :15 and why does he have a psychotic grin on his face?** A: It's all good. He's a professional, he's wearing a lab coat. **Q: How easy is it to pull the rope / lift an average bike? Would a typical 12 year old be able to lift his mountain bike? What about a 9 year old boy?** A: I think a 12 year old could be big enough but the younger one may not. Depends on how big they are. It does take little effort for me but I'm 6' 1", 220 lbs. I would imagine that someone weighing 100 lbs. might have more trouble. **Q: Has anyone ever used these for Kayak hoists? We have 2 Kayaks and these look like they would work fine.** A: I bought this set for my 10" kayaks. They each weigh 48 pounds plus the stuff I put inside. I guess the total is about 60 pounds each. They lift OK but not evenly. I lift a little, then push down on one end to even it out, lift a little more, etc.. until they are hoisted all the way up. They come down pretty good. Once hoisted they hold the weight fine. We had to make a couple straps for the kayaks though.
