Full of excellent drawings and paintings that went in to planning and developing the movie.The book covers a good variety of character designs, location art, props, color keys and other production works. The artwork is excellent, from the quick pen sketches to the many large color images.With Mr Peabody and Sherman first appearing on TV in 1959 (In their own segment as part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon series) I found it interesting looking at the character designs to see how they incorporated the old 2D, simplified 60’s style of animation while also making them appropriate to CG animation and a modern audience.There is a good number of pages dedicated to the character designs of the 3 main characters (Mr Peabody, Sherman and Penny). As well as a number of other minor characters organized by the locations they appear in, such as Marie Antoinette, Cleopatra, Leonardo DaVinci and Mona LisaI particularly loved the varied environmental designs from the shiny modern city to the historical locations visited such as France, Egypt, Florence and Troy. Each designed in a way that was unique to the location. There’s also a few pages of locations that don’t appear in the final movie, but had artwork created for during the planning stages.As far as text goes, there’s not a great deal of it (It is an art book after all), but what is written gives interesting insights on how artists approached different designs and the directions they took. As an illustrator I enjoy hearing other artists thoughts and processes. There’s also some information on the history of the characters and how DreamWorks Animation came to be making the movie which I found to be an interesting read.Overall, This is a really great book and sits proudly in my collection of “Art of…” books ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful, beautiful art. *by J***H on Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2014* It's amazing all the artwork that goes into an animated film these days. A great deal of it, sadly, the audience will never see. The exception being with these, "The Art of" books coming from both Disney and Dreamworks.For children and fans of the film, "The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman," will help relieve those who have had their appetites whetting from seeing the recent movie.This is a fun book. And I have to say, I have to read it several times to absorb all the art, illustrations, photos here. It truly is amazing. It's interesting to see how some of the characters (Mr. Peabody, Sherman, Penny, etc) start off and develop before their evolving into final forms on screen.he wraparound book jacket is a standout, incorporating both the classic animated style on the back, and the current versions on the front.Mr. Beck did a fantastic job here. One can only guess about the material he couldn't include.
