Normally, my husband takes him for walks. However, my husband started a new job at the beginning of year where he travels. He is gone anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months straight. So I am the one who does all the walking duties with him. My boy did go to training, but again he is very stubborn. When I take him for walks, I had started dreading it. He pulls so much and is very strong. I have tried several harnesses with him. None of them worked. I tried a choke collar with him and it didn't help. My English Mastiff has a gentle leader and that does well for her. I decided to try it with him. It worked for a while, until it stopped working. I have tried the head halti, and that broke while we were on a walk. I tried the leashes that scrunch up with the hands free option. That didn't work. Also, I am 134lb. He has pulled me into my kayak when my hand and wrist was in a hard brace after surgery. He has started trying to chase cars. He has pulled me down my driveway. I started becoming frustrated and dreaded going outside with him. I bought materials and installed a temporary fence in my back yard. I rent so I can't do a real fence. I tried one of those figure 8 leashes and the same day, I got it he saw some dogs that were loose and drug me down. He jumped the fence and was gone. I got in my SUV and drove to where he was at the end of my road. I decided that I was done with spending so much money on different products that aren't working. I was against prong collars. I used one with my Doberman 10 years ago. I only used it a few times with her. I had used an e-collar with my Rottie when he was younger and it was ill fitted. He ended up needing emergency surgery. So I got rid of the e-collar and previous prong collar. I said I would never use a prong collar. Finally, I had a break down and knew I had to do something. I decided that if I was going to do this, I was going to use the best that I could find. This prong collar is a little hard for me to put on due to having De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. I use this prong collar and I hook it to his heavy duty chain leash. I also hook the choke collar to the leash just in case the prong collar ever fails. The choke collar isn't even pulling or doing anything since it is so loose and basically acting like a collar. I also use an e-collar for him as well. I wear a pair of climbing gloves that I hold the leash with. That way if he goes to pull me, I have a good grip. We have been going out and having good walks. A few times he has gotten distracted and tried to pull me. But I didn't all down! I was able to hold the leash and keep him under control. I was very confused how he was still pulling me. I did some reading and realized I had the prong collar too loose. I took out a link and now it works very well. I can now walk him on a loose leash! I have never been able to walk him on a loose leash. When he tries to pull, I give one light correction and he listens. He sits and waits to leave out the house and to get back in the house. I am very pleased. I know there is a piece I can get to help put this on him, but reviews say it will come off. I don't want to go through that, so I am just gonna keep doing what we are doing. This prong collar is very durable. It is very strong. Be careful with it, I dropped it on my finger and it split my fingernail right at the base of the nail. These should NOT be loose. That's how I found this brand actually. Check out the size guide before you buy....I ended up buying one that was too small before and had to order more links for it. I needed a second one and got this. I love so much about these. They are easy to use... yes they are harder than a quick hook, but they should be. They give you so much control. They make training a breeze and I'm new at training my dogs with these. If you correct with these properly all of your problems with your dog will vanish. I have a 90lb pit lab mix that pulled so bad we could never walk him. I wish I had educated myself sooner. This changed things COMPLETELY. My husband couldn't even walk him on a regular leash. Now, he gets excited and just whines. If he pulls to sniff I just give a quick small jerk on the leash and he stops in his tracks. He will still try to put occasionally but I just have to give the correction again and he starts watching for my direction again. He's a very high energy, excited, strong dog and this tamed him. He sees his lead is excited to go on a walk. We got a new dog from the shelter... she's a little mini pit. Half the size of her brother. She's more scared of things and skidding. Walking her was a nightmare. She would just sit and not move because she didn't like being forced to do anything because of her fear. It was more difficult to train her with this collar than her brother, but it worked. 2 quick corrections and she's no longer laying down... she's walking with us. She learned heel after 1 very long walk. That wouldn't have happened in 100 walks without this collar. The spinning loop on this doesn't make a difference to me. I have one with it and one without.
