I bought age 10-12 and it was easily big enough for her. The hat was a bicorn hat, not tricorn as shown in the item listing. Other reviewers have noted the hat they received was far too small, even for a very young child. I guess I was lucky to have received the larger bicorn....and very happy to find it was folded and wrapped in such a way that it kept a good shape in the packet. It is stiff enough to stay in shape whilst being worn too. However, we already had another hat that she wanted to wear, which went just as well with the suit. In the packet you get a hat, an all-in-one jacket/shirt with a very effective patterning of a waistcoat and buckle...and a pair of very sturdy trousers. Even if your child has shorter legs than the trousers, it doesn't matter as the fabric the fake boot sections are made of are just about rigid enough to let the thigh parts sag and look very authentic. These trousers are not at all flimsy. There is also a separate collar ruff, but it's just a small piece of layered white fabric with two thin strips that go round the neck and do up with a tiny bit of Velcro. It's very thin and kept sticking out. It didn't look right, so my daughter didn't wear it. The suit looked just as good without, so no worries. As you can see from the picture I included with my review (the hat is NOT the one supplied), the bottoms of the trousers have buckle shapes on them and are supposed to sit on the fronts of your child's shoes. They don't have any elastic to keep them in place, so kept slipping about, but you could (if you wanted) attach some yourself. I didn't and it wasn't a huge problem. The jacket part is very nice and, for the price, this little costume made my girl look fab at her school's 'Pirate Friday' event recently.
