I washed them in vinegar- no effect. Washed them in Dawn and let them dry out- still stunk. Aired them out- still stunk. Then I just left them alone for three days with toothpicks holding them open and viola! No smell. I think they were literally made the day they left china. Neoprene smell does weaken. They just needed to breathe. I gave them five stars because they really are fabulous. Thin, protective. I don’t use a case on my iphone so this protects it in my purse and car. I would not have gone through the hassle of washing and airing them out if they weren’t so useful. They were well stitched- so whatever problem people were encountering in earlier reviews they definitely got that sorted out. The case I got back then suddenly began to crystalize and it quickly fell apart. But what's left is a beautiful, thin phone that I haven't seen in 5 years. It still has a screen protector but I like not having the case. The buttons are easy to feel and to press... It's thin.. It's cool.. That rubbery old case held the heat in. Once in a while the phone felt hot. Over the years the heat sorta tattooed its design into my phone. I'm careful, never dropped it, don't use it much, so this pouch-type case is ok for me. I actually get more protection with this sleeve than I did with the standard type "case".
