I'm sure I'll get there, but it wasn't the right first step for me.I don't love the flavors of the bars, but it has nothing to do with the crickets. Even my husband, who was fairly appalled at the idea of eating bugs even in energy bar form, was pleasantly surprised at the lack of anything that could be discerned as an "insect" flavor. We just don't happen to love any of the flavor combos. I don't really want spiciness in my energy bars, and two of the bars had more bite than we like. The Chaco bar was our favorite.That being said, if the descriptions of the flavors appeal to you, the flavors do seem well balanced, and the big boost of protein from the crickets leads to a very filling bar without a ridiculous number of calories. Not so easy to find. I cook a lot and sometimes I just don't want the hassle of packing and taking food with me. I like the idea of a sustainable food supply (I do eat meat, but realize its expensive and environmentally challenging to continue to be our main food source) that can be easily ground up and put into foods to fortify them. Cricket flour just makes sense. I really like the chocolate peanut butter, though they are all good. I was amazed at how much the box weighed! There is so much density to the bars that the price doesn't really relect that, In other words, I thought they were a little pricey compared to other bars, but there actually a great value due how nutrient dense they are. I bought them because I am looking for a high protein, low sugar snack. I wish they had a little less sugar but the flavor was good--the Lime/Coconut had a good strong lime flavor; the cayenne had good cayenne flavor, etc. They taste like what they are-no crickety flavor. I have no qualms about eating crickets, I've had dried mealworms, etc, as long as there as no recognizable body parts. There was a bar that had crunchy little toffee-like bits (the banana one?) that I couldn't finish because my imagination ran away with me. I think they were bits of nuts.
