I cleaned the surface of my front doors before I used a rag to put the stain on and it went on very easily. The front doors looked good after the first coat but I let them dry overnight and put a second coat on and they looked beautiful. I had a wood trash container in my kitchen so I used it on that also and it looked great after as well.
