The thicker stems in the back do have some inside "wires?" exposed at the end but honestly for the price that doesn't bother me at all. And I can just clip it if it did. I would order this again and plan to order other pieces from this company as well. As for packaging, the piece came it's own box that was packed inside of a shipping box that was also packed with paper. I felt that it was pretty secure. No damage at all. The back of the arrangement is indeed flat but it suits my purposes just fine. I guess if you needed to you could simply add some more peonies to the back but don't quote me on that.
