They are only slightly warm to the touch but never have I noticed them being Hot. Not knowing just how hot your gets, I would refer your concern to the manufacturer or if new enough, return it to Amazon as defective. **Q: Using on batteries that are half depleted. Light is green, but flashing red consistently. Is that a normal status light or do I have a dud?** A: I am color blind but I think when the light is flashing it is charging **Q: Will this charge a marine battery 12v 36ah properly?** A: Less expensive type but have had good luck with this type on different size/types of batteries at the farm on different machines. **Q: Charge 12V battery overnight. Indicator was still red, removed and tested at 13.7V. I thought it should be green. What does this mean? Bad Battery?** A: The battery is good if 1) it holds 13.7V for a week after charging overnight and 2) it stays above 12V when discharged at a rate that will reach its amp-hour rating in 24 hours. Sorry, I don't know how to interpret the charger indicator lamp. If you leave them hooked up for trickle charging, the clamps will eventually corrode. But the bigger, fancier red/black chargers burn out in just a few months, so these are much better. And they'll charge a car battery if you leave them overnight. Definitely worth the money. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works Great but.... *by on Reviewed in the United States August 29, 2024* Upon receiving the charger, I opened the packaging to find the cheapest peice of plastic with short power and clamp wires (that are like 18 gauge) and thought to myself well, this thing is a waste especially after reading the most nonchalant instructions I've ever seen for a device one of which reads, "Green light - Charged enough", but I went ahead and plugged it in and started the charge of my ATV battery. A couple hours went by and I went to check on it and it was green (full). I thought to myself, theres no way that its already full so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and went directly to green. Irritated I grabbed my battery and took it to place on my big charger and to my amazement it went immediately green, fully charged. They say never judge a book by its cover. This little cheap charger/maintainer is beyond a great buy. Only reason for the 4 stars is the build quality and length of wires but if you want something that will charge a battery quickly and is cheap, look no further! Easy to use just clip to the battey and then the wall. Very portable and even has a little bag to store it.
