It's starting to thin and I have lately noticed scalp and skin reactions to drugstore hair dye. Refusing to go grey gracefully (just cannot do it) I briefly considered henna and walnut dye before finding this product. I ordered this with hopes that it would cover my grey (10-20%) without wrecking my hair or giving me hives and restoring me to my natural base color ... in the range of a 5/6. Happy to report zero chemical reactions and hair feels healthy. For the record, the instructions do come in English. I used a professional brush and bowl to apply 1/2 of the entire box of pudding like product to unwashed and completely dry hair, roots first (virgin hair), let that process for 10 min and then applied the remaining product thru the mid shaft and ends of my hair for additional 10 min. The color came out even...so that's good....but it is slightly darker overall than I would prefer. The color is definitely a warm brown. If you don't like red-tones...steer clear. If I were to do it all over again, I would keep the 10 min processing time for my roots and reduce the processing time to 5 min (or less?) on the rest of the hair. I am including photos so you can see before/during/after. The product mixed up easily. It initially smelled like a barnyard, but that dissipated within 5 min or so. I thought it smelled like ivory soap while it was processing. I don't notice any residual smell now that my color is complete/dried. You mix equal portions of #1 (colorant) & #2 (developer) and mix well. Don't mix up the tube caps due to safety. Comb out tangles. Wear the plastic gloves & apply mixture of solution evenly from root to tip in the order of back hair, side hair, front hair. Apply thoroughly using a comb and use sufficient amount on grey areas. Wait 15 minutes after application and extend a few minutes longer for thick hair or mostly grey. Shampoo and rinse until water runs clear. Dry hair thoroughly to prevent any bleed on to clothing or bedding. Rinse out the mixing tray for use again. My Comments: If you have short short hair, you can easily get 3 uses out of the tubes. The color fades over time so if you are not making a drastic change in color, you might not need to do a root touch up. I have severe allergies to PPD. They say that this product does not contain it, but I have had burns on my scalp and ears and tremendous itching. I even lost my voice for several days due to my throat closing up. I tried one more time and took steroids (prednisone) prior to coloring, put a steroid cream on my head 2 days prior, and loaded up on Allegra (not Benadryl). I also heavily coated my ears, neck & hairline and tried to minimize the contact with my scalp. It worked...I just was itchy for a week. Amazing what women will do to get rid of the grey !!! But the short answer is that Light Brown colored my grey and naturally dark brown roots, to th same light auburn color at first. After it dried, I saw that it blended imperceptably into the rest of my hair, which had been professionally lightened to a medium brown base and blonde highlights. Black can be hard to reverse. Most people will say you need to strip it and start over with straw! Figure you can always go to a shop if you don’t like the results from this product. Yeah, the more I think about it, I would call a friend and use 2 or 3 lighter shades to see if you can turn a bunch of your black locks (mixed in underneath the top layer, in case you don’t live the results). I started out coloring my hair for fun. As I got older, gray hair quickly took over. I now color my hair because I HAVE to. I have tried almost every boxed dye and salon grade hair dye, I’ve purchased and used additives that were supposed to help cover my stubborn grays but didn’t.
