I used wood glue along with the screws provided, also glued down the ends of the slats for a more solid feel. The "splintery" wood was hard to work with but, once the foundation was assembled and enclosed in its cover, I forgot about the splinters, and enjoyed sleeping on a solid foundation. Before buying, I researched other foundations, and chose this one because its slats were much closer together than the others. Should extend the life of the mattress.
