I was hesitant to buy this product considering the financial outlay, because I'd tried the Diva cup and had been unable to even insert it. But I read that this was more flexible than the diva cup and decided to take the risk. Best. Decision. Ever. I'm half way through my second cycle with the Lunette, and all those reviews about it being a game changer are 100% on the mark. As others have and will say, there is a learning curve and it takes some determination and familiarity with your body. I ended up cutting off the entire stem to make it comfortable, in retrospect, I was a bit hasty in doing so and wish I would have experimented a little more before doing so, as it's complicated retrieval somewhat, but that's a mild irritation given how amazing this product is. This will probably be TMI, but I read all the reviews looking for a thorough one from someone who was in the same boat I was: a virgin who hasn't used tampons much. In other words, not at all used to having anything "up there". Like I said, I was totally unable to insert the diva cup, it was too painful. This cup folds much smaller. The first time using it was, unsurprisingly, painful, but doable. I use the "tulip" fold and it seems to work really well. I have no problem what-so-ever with it not opening up once it's inside. Extracting in the first few times was... rough. After one cycle, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to use it on a regular bases. Necessity forced my hand, though, and I tried it again this cycle. It's going much better. I still experience a little discomfort with insertion and retrieval, but it's mild and totally tolerable, and once it's in, I don't feel it at all. I use the smaller option for the obvious reasons, and seem to have to change it every 6 hours or so on my heaviest days, but so far I've experienced zero leaking. (( as a side note: For anyone who's looking for reusable pads, as, say, a panty liner for safety sake with your cup, I strongly recommend Party In My Pants pads http://partypantspads.com they're absolutely the best, and super adorable. Great company, great product. That's what got me started on non disposable menstrual products. )) In conclusion: This cup is perfect for the novice, don't give up, it is so worth the initial discomfort!
