He doesn't have the greatest hoof quality despite a good diet and regular farrier care. I've noticed a lot less sensitivity especially on hard, rocky ground after using this twice a week. In the real rainy season I use the Hoof Gel that water proofs the hoof. These 3 products have sure made my horses foot easy to maintain this year. Last year his front feet broke off at the nail holes and I had to buy Easyride boots and put on him until his feet grew out- that was a pain. The hoof hardner also will tighten up a nail hole to keep a shoe from coming off. How long does it take to work.** A: I have used it for years and I only put it on the outside lower half of the hooves. It can be applied to the soles, but do not put it on the frogs or bulbs or coronary bands unless instructed to do so by your vet. I noticed an improvement after about a week. Your mileage may vary. I hope this helps. **Q: If you don't use something to remove a previous product, is that really a problem?** A: I dont believe that it would a problem . **Q: I asked the wrong question earlier ( auto correct changed my word-, what's the difference from this and keratex hoof gel** A: the hardener is used to harden the soft hoof and then the gel is used to maintain it. The keratex website has information on the difference. the gel can be used all year once the sole is hard. the gel can be used year around once the hoof is hard. **Q: Does this come with an applicator? I've read reviews saying it doesn't last that long when you have to use a paint brush because of the waste** A: Yes it does come with a little brush. The amount of waste can be very small because the viscosity of the product is low so it is fairly easy to use nearly all on the tiny brush. I use the cap from the Keratex bottle and brush it all out and onto hooves before stopping. I pour the cap comfortably full (2/3 or so) when I start and that's enough to do two hooves-sole and outside up to 1" of the coronary. Then I keep adding enough to do the other two hooves.
