They are worth it. Lasts a long time. **Q: Is it metal** A: Its plastic but the back part is like metal, I gave this as a present and thats what I remember. But its a great pen, u wont regret purchasing.. **Q: The Black and Gold says "plastic barrel" is this one plastic barrel, ss well?** A: Plastic barrel, metal tip and metal top. It's a nice pen, sharp looking and writes smooth. **Q: as far as replacing ink, just search for "fisher" refills or is there a specific type? are they all the same?** A: Fisher makes refills for their pens in black ink. I was able to buy a 'fine line' refill for my pen in black ink. These are not expensive and they last for a long time.
