It's about 39-40" from the plug to the variable speed control, and then about 36" from the variable control to the fan connector. Not the best place for the control IMHO (I'd have preferred it close to the fan, or close to the power plug), but there it is.I should clarify though, that I got the Single 120, not the Dual 120, so I'm assuming/hoping the power cord portion is the same, and the Dual just includes a connector between the fans. **Q: Can they use 12v?** A: Hello, Thank you for your question. The AXIAL S1225D kit is only designed to run on AC power. It is not designed to be used with an AC adapter or with DC power. The box containing the speed controller has an on/off switch built into the dial. **Q: Could these fans be mounted horizontally in the floor to accomplish this ?** A: not quite sure about how you would protect, but if the fans where protected from weight above, they could be mounted horizontally. Using the for long mounting bolts, it would be easy to mount in any angle. I'm very happy with the fans. very quiet. I used to mount on grill in back of outside kegerator to aid in the compressor cooling.
