Perhaps that is a factor for their charging a higher price for the same active ingredient (in addition to huge marketing costs & shareholders to appease, IMO). Before the patent expired on fipronil, Merial owned the rights and could charge whatever they chose (monopoly), which seems to have resulted in artificially high prices that are hard to reverse despite the fact others are now manufacturing essentially the same product at a better price. **Q: Is this as good as frontline** A: No, this stuff SUCKS. Do not buy it. Pay the extra for genuine Frontline. We put in on our dogs and cats (different package of course for each animal type) and there were no dead fleas and it didn't work at all. Read through the package, said 24 - 48 hrs, we waited 5 days and nothing. Called Amazon got a full refund. Bought Frontline the next day. Put it on the dogs and cats, within a few hours almost all the fleas were dead and gone. DO NOT BUY FiproGuard, it does NOT work. **Q: Where is the expiration date shown? All I can find is a number printed on the bottom of the box, "0115030215". It could be either 01/15 or 3/2/15.** A: Because the exposure to light and air is what causes flea medications to break down, as long as the medicine you have is still in the tube it should be fine. After that, we used this generic Frontline formulation, and it also works like a charm and as advertised because it was nearly one month ago to the day I treated Hot Dog and Misty Blue with it before I saw the first flea again on Hot Dog yesterday as I was trimming her, so I re-treated them today.I have been keeping a close eye on both our Babies for re-infestation this past month because the stinking fleas had somehow worked their way in our home and infested it too, and there were no fleas or ticks to be seen until I noticed the one lone flea while trimming Hot Dog yesterday. I don't want to have to fight the fleas in our home again, but if I do (or you do), check out the aerosol can of Alpine Flea Insecticide with IGR, which wiped them out completely - but wear a mask when spraying. They all seem to work at least as good as the Frontline products. We've had no flea problems at all. Occasionally I'll find a tick on one of the dogs after being outside, but they're usually not attached yet. And keep in mind, that the product doesn't claim to repel ticks, only kill them.
