The "tri-pod stand" are extensions for the legs that support the wheel. I work at a public health department and this is the second one we've purchased. We use it at outreach events and our previous one wore out. Our first one had a bent metal piece as the base and could only be used on a table, but this new one has tri-pod legs. In order to stand it on the ground we just pop in the extensions. It works great both ways. I had my doubts about its stability, but it has proven me wrong - we've never had an issue with it toppling over. It's pretty tall, so for events with smaller kids we use it on a lower table. It is versatile and sturdy. Though it costs about as much as the wheel itself, we did go ahead and spring for the case. It's huge and awkward, but it protects the wheel and I anticipate it lasting even longer than our last one. I am 5'2" and it's difficult for me to manage - that's how big the case is. I need to figure out a way to have casters mounted so I can drive it around! Overall, very pleased with our purchase. We always have a crowd at our station at health fairs and it is a great way to interact and start a conversation with participants. **Q: I'm having trouble getting my papers with the prizes printed on them to stay in their slots. Any suggestions? I printed on regular 20lb paper.** A: I printed on thicker paper, but a dot of double sided tape on the back should fix that. **Q: What are the sizes of the slots? i'd like to design custom inserts, do you have a pdf template? thanks!** A: We have a pdf template for the custom inserts and the 8" center plate, these templates are automatically emailed to you when you purchase the product.
