I had to apply a couple of coats to get it nice and dark, but noted that one coat actually looks like a nice deep purple stain if you spread out evenly. All in all, AMAZING for the price (I paid under 3 dollars, it looks like the price has gone up slightly since). Then I couldn't find it anywhere for years and never found another color that matched but boring mauve. I wasn't sure if this was the exact same color as the burgundy I loved but it looked very like it to me. My only fear was that it might not be a suitable color anymore. I was hoping someone would mention their skin tone and age in the reviews. I took a chance buying based on someone said it is blood red (the only clue that this could be my old fave). my complexion is medium,some sun damage, foundation is honey beige, skin tans easily. To my pleasant surprise it still complements my skin. This probably can look good with most any skin tone. You will need lip balm first so it glides on otherwise it's a pain to put on. It will be a blackish red if you swipe it across your entire lip but there's a way it's adjustable. If you dab just a little on and spread it thin you can get a nice shade of red that to me is sort of like apple or maybe brick red and the black tone in it seems to vanish.
