Sounds are really good and do sound much better through headphones that through the on-board speakers. The speakers are bottom facing and do not sound great if you're playing over anything but a reflective floor (hardwood, tile, etc.) But the keyboard does have jacks on the back for studio monitor speakers. I love playing it with the headphones on because it doesn't bother anyone else who may happen to be home. That said the key bed does make some noise and may be a problem late a night when others are sleeping. Just something to be aware of. The concert piano sound is where this one shines. The other sounds are really good for the most part. Only thing I wished was that Roland had a key map available for some of the other sounds like for the drums or sound effects. I also like the fact that you can use this keyboard as a controller for a DAW.
