Review: Easy to install, tips on installation, inexpensive to maintain! - Great product for the price! The template was accurate for me. I measured the wrong section of ductwork thinking i had plenty of room, but where I ended up putting it was less wide, and it was a squeaker! The ductwork was 16" and the unit was 15 3/4". In hindsight, I would have added a spacer on the outside of the ductwork under the panel to give it a bit more room, but the bulbs weren't touching the far side, and are working fine. I can add a spacer later on. It was near impossible to keep the cutouts from falling in - they are still sitting in there. Ha! This unit replaced a very expensive UV system that was installed incorrectly over the furnace filter. DO NOT install this anywhere near the filter - the UV will shred them, and ultimately plug up your furnace. Also - the old unit did not cover a lot of space in the ductwork. You want to make sure you put this in the longest stretch of ductwork (straight - no corners) that you possible can. The longer the exposure time the air passing through gets, the more efficiently the UV will kill everything. Mine is installed along 20 feet of straight ductwork. I was spending $50 a tube x2 yearly for the old system, plus $140 a year for filters, changing them every 3 months. This unit saves me a lot of money! Two 72W tubes every 6 months for $35.00 available through the company. I am super happy with this! It didn't cost a ton of money, was easy to install, and is cheaper to maintain. And yes, it really works. I'm living in a moldy house, and it keeps me and my dog from becoming ill. I run the whole house fan a lot, so the air is going past the UV quite a bit, and it really makes a difference!
Review: sturdy all metal construction, no ozone smell - Very impressed with construction quality of this UV light. The entire structure is made from sturdy metal. The flange that sits on the ductwork has a gasket material applied to it already. There are indicator lights for each bulb that show proper operation. Before installing, I tested this unit by running in a small room to make sure that it didn't produce ozone. After operating for several hours, I shut it off and stuck my nose inside and did not smell the classic metallic scent of ozone. It was a slight smell that reminded me of suntan lotion, but after doing some googling it appears that's the UV light interacting with materials inside the room I placed it. Installation was fairly easy for me since I already had a UV light that had failed. Just had to open up a couple of the holes since these bulbs were spaced further apart. Only negative I can point out is that the cord on this unit is way too short. I needed an extension cord to reach outlet to plug it in. Other than that it seems like a top notch unit with high quality construction and quality bulbs that don't produce ozone. Expect to replace the bulbs every 12 to 18 months if you're running it continuously. Even though the bulbs may continue to shine, the UV output does start to drop over time and while they may look like they're working the UV output might not be enough to control mold and mildew inside the ductwork.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Exact link to bulbs? Or exact bulb model? for this unit**
A: bought this unit 5 years or so ago it came with bulbs its still working and I've only had to change 1 bulb purchased thru amazon about 3 years after purchase....all bulbs are still working good product investment for the money...

**Q: Does it require grounded outlet**
A: I did not ground it and it works just fine.

**Q: Anyone know how to wire it to your hvac so it is only on when the hvac is blowing air?**
A: re: cycling with the blower.
a.) do not cycle the lamp with your blower. These lamps take a few minutes to actually reach maximum UV output - you cannot see this but any emitted UV lamp mfg. will confirm this. Cycling defeats the purpose. If you wish to have them run for a limited cycle, install a multi-hour clock-timer. Set them to run 8 hours a day (or whatever).
re: Connect to blower - Someone suggested this... No, don't do this. Your blower is driven by 240VAC in two phases, one supplied by a run capacitor. Do not connect a 120VAC device to a 240 VAC source.
c.) if you are sold on short cycling, then there are other units which supply this feature via a vacuum switch assembly built into the base of the unit. Based on the beneficial application of UV-C requiring extended exposure, I think this is a mistake. It will not prolong your lamp life, it will shorten it, while reducing the actual effectiveness of the effort.
d.) if you are handy, you can install a vacuum diapragm switch of your own - sourced from any HVAC supplier - and directly actuate the receptacle via that microswitch. Most are rated at 2A at 125VAC. You will have to acquire the 120VAC supply, which could in theory be tapped off one leg of your unit supply IF you have a neutral and two hots (many don't). Or, you could use a nearby circuit or receptacle to supply the power through that vacuum switch and to your lamp assembly. But DON'T do it. Cycling UV-C lamps is a bad and counterproductive idea. Use a periodic timer and run them one day out of three. That is a good balance of filament cycling against run time. If you switch them daily, by the time you cycle the filaments 365 times, (1 year) the Miller-Larson effect will probably cause filament failure anyway. You will only have saved a few kilowatts power.
Or, do what most manufacturers recommend and run them 24/7.

**Q: Power cord length?**
A: 6 feet

### ⭐ Jury's still out on this one... *UPDATED*
*by K***N on August 25, 2021*

First, even though the Amazon listing claims that the correct template is included in the box, it is NOT. Installation other than that was simple enough with the correct hole saw. Unit powered on with no problem and initially there were no concerns. After it had been running a while, every time the fan started on the air conditioner, there was a funky smell. It is a cross between hot electronics and something burning. I checked the unit and nothing is overly warm, even when sitting in an attic in Louisiana. I ended up turning the unit off for the rest of the night, but even then there was still an odor for a while. Going to contact the manufacturer and see what they say. UPDATE 1/22/2022: Went up to the attic today to store some stuff and unit is dead. Zero UV. Power switch lights up. Pulled unit off of duct and checked lamps to be sure they were seated correctly. Checked fuse anyway. Swapped lamps between sockets. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Amazon shows unavailable, so guess I’m screwed.
