I have also added chewable hairball treats to increase her roughage with psyllium and slippery elm which are excellent for healing the gut. I brush my cat every day. When/ if he starts to gag a little I put some on his front paw and tell him "good boy." He licks it off and I give him a treat. He doesn't like the sticky feel on his paw so he licks it off right away.
