The rubber stretches, so excessive traction will cause movement. I find they are splendid for stopping me skidding and falling over on packed ice - good surface grip. They are not intended for athletic/running use - I don't think they would stay in place used like that - not what they are designed for. The chart clearly says UK women's 5-8 wants the medium size. I think you will find that should be right for shoes and also for boots. Pull the over-sole over the toe of your shoe/boot and then pull the rear part up over the heel of your shoe/boot using the tab. We are happily transferring ours between shoes and boots - still working very well for us.
